The Honorable Robert A. Gordon, (Ret.) is Of Counsel to Amara Immigration Law, LLC where he exclusively advises the firm on criminal defense cases. Judge Gordon is a retired Associate Justice of the Springfield District Court, Trial Court Department, where he served from 2001 until 2015.
Prior to being appointed to a judgeship, Judge Gordon was in private practice as a trial lawyer for more than 20 years, representing clients in criminal and civil litigation cases in the state and federal courts, as well as being approved for appointment as counsel in first-degree murder cases in superior court. Judge Gordon was a Professor of Law (Adjunct Faculty) in the Legal Studies Department at Bay Path University from 2002 until 2013.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court appointed Judge Gordon to be a Board Member of the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS), where he served from 1996 until 2001. In 1993, the Massachusetts Bar Association appointed Judge Gordon as a Board of Trustees member of Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. (MCLE) where he served until 2001.
In 1993, the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) appointed Judge Gordon to serve on the Federal Court Judicial Selection Committee. From 1993 until 2001, Judge Gordon was President of the Hampden County Bar Advocates, Inc. He served as President of the Hampden County Bar Association in 1991.
Judge Gordon holds a Bachelor of Arts in history from Western New England University, a Masters in Education from the University of Massachusetts, Graduate School of Education, and a Juris Doctor degree from Western New England University. Prior to attending law school, he worked as a social worker in the child support enforcement division at the Department of Public Welfare, Department of Youth Services.
